Tips for Caravanning

Even for those who have owned a caravan for many years, finding new ways in which things can be done can make life a lot easier. The following tips will ensure that your caravan ownership and holidays go as smooth as possible.

Gas

Remember never to lie a gas cylinder on its side and there has to be a gap between the LPG and the valve. If caution is not taken and liquid leaks then it can expand to almost two hundred times its volume, causing severe damage.

Fire Safety

It is important to have a fire extinguisher in the caravan, but it is common for most to consist of powder. So giving it a shake each week will prevent the powder from solidifying.

Listen to those in the know

Speaking to people who have caravanned for many years is one way to gain extra knowledge. So ask questions and take on board their advice because you never know when you will need it!

Caravan Recovery

If your vehicle is covered by roadside assistance or something similar it makes sense to check that your caravan is covered. It is common for some to only recover a caravan if it is attached to a broken down car and many will not even provide cover at all.

Caravan repair kit

Sometimes you need to make a quick repair, so put together a kit that will allow you to make quick repairs. A can of WD40, Milton fluid, a torch, spanner, screwdrivers and fuses could be a life saver.

Mirrors

When reversing your caravan, take a quick look in the towing mirrors and turn the wheel in the direction of the one that you can see the caravan in. This will get you back on track.

All about the timing

Make sure you remove your awning the night before you head home. Even during the height of summer it is possible to have a damp morning and this can cause damage the fabric if it is packed away while wet.
