How to Stay Cool in the Sunshine

With the weather heating up and the sun showing it’s face more, it’s time to start thinking about how you’re going to stay cool whilst enjoying the sunshine.

No matter whether you are at home, running errands or out exploring, it is important to stay cool and protected in the sun.

What clothes you wear can make a big difference in staying cool in the sun. Light coloured clothes are a great option as they absorb less heat than dark coloured clothing. Loose cotton clothing like t-shirts and shorts are ideal on hot summer days as they give your body room to breathe.

Wearing a hat can also go a long way in keeping you cool. They help protect your eyes from the sun and your head from sunburn. Wide brimmed hats are perfect for shading your face and shoulders.

Hydration is always key in the summer, especially when trying to stay cool in the sun. No matter what you are doing, you should always try to drink 1.5 litres of water a day to stay hydrated. One of the best ways to make sure you drink enough is with a re-usable water bottle. That way you can stay hydrated whilst on the go.

One of the easiest ways to stay cool is sticking to the shade. If you’re chilling in the garden or park, shadier spots are perfect for a cool and breezy picnic. On a hike? Routes with a lot of tree coverage are ideal for staying fresh and comfortable. It also means you’re less likely to get sun burned.

If you’re struggling for shaded areas in your garden, gazebos are a great choice to create a sheltered area.
