Selecting a TV Service for your Caravan

In Towsure Outdoors Blog 0 comment

Despite owning a caravan and enjoying the freedom that comes with it, we do still love our home comforts and TV is no different. The following list will give you the options available to you.

Freeview

This is the first obvious option and that is because it is free. A digital tuner can be purchased almost anywhere and it offers up to 50 channels. There is a requirement occasionally to retune them but that is mainly to add new channels.

It is possible to purchase TV’s that have freeview built in which will help to save space in your caravan as there is no need for the set-top box.

Free to Air Channels

Free channels can be picked up using a portable caravan satellite. There is a wide range of channels available and this includes local broadcasts with many of them being transmitted from the Satellite Astra 28 E. The signal strength across the UK is strong which means re-tuning is mainly unnecessary.

Freesat

Free Satellite TV can be used if you have a Sky dish installed meaning that you will only need the digibox to get going. The equipment can vary in price and some digiboxes offer recording. There are ;around 200 channels available although it is worth taking a look at the terms and conditions as it is possible that you could be charged for extras.

Sky

Using Sky is another option but it does come with a considerable cost but even more channels, depending on your subscription package. This will require a viewing card and a Sky digibox, as well as a satellite dish.

Aerials

Caravan aerials work with freeview and although some of the common flying saucer aerials are easy to set up, they can provide a weaker signal when compared to the directional ones. They do not offer the same level of reliability as caravan satellites and in certain areas it could be possible to lose the signal altogether.

Caravan owners who feel that having a TV is a vital part of going away have a number of options available to them. However, it is important to shop around and understand what channels you require and how much you will actually watch because this will determine the TV option that you choose.

Browse through to decide on the best option for you.
